Meta-optics for Multimodal Microscopy

In work led by PhD student Shaban Sulejman, members of the group have recently published work in ACS Photonics demonstrating that a suitably designed dialectric metasurface can switch between phase contrast and bright field microscopy. The work demonstrates imaging of both synthetic and unstained biological samples including prostate cancer cells and breast tissue. The results demonstrate the potential of metasurfaces to be used in miniaturized optical systems for label-free point-of-care testing beyond the laboratory.
